Welcome to your first move. There’s a first for everything, right? Well today you’re going to discover that moving is more than just hiring an affordable movingcompany. Here are five ideas to get you going right for your first move.
1.) Lunch on me – Of course you don’t have to, but if you want to put a smile on a mover’s face and an some extra umph in their step (money saving – wink wink) then tell them that lunch is on you. It doesn’t have to be a five star restaurant, just order pizza, sodas, and have some water on standby. They’ll appreciate it and you may get better service even form professional moving companies. If they decline, at least you offered.

2.) Ask the movers – Many people just sit back and watch movers move them instead of actively participating in the process. And of course the professionals don’t mind this, because you are the customer. However, you may want to chip in and help a little so you can get a better idea of what is happening to your stuff, and this gives you better questions to ask the movers. Ask many questions, because the more you know, the more you know.

3.) Electronic jungle – Before the movers even step in your door on move day help prepare the space by unplugging, dusting, and organizing all of your electronics. You’ll thank yourself later (and maybe us). It takes time for movers to do all of this, and they are not as familiar with your electronics as you are, so things can get stored in other boxes and take a long time digging through different boxes when it’s time to unpack.

4.) Have a separate pile for stuff you need right away when you get to your destination and tell the movers to load it last that way it comes off first at your destination. This can be a huge help especially if you need to access items such as your work computer or files immediately upon arrival.

5.) Send the children packing – Kids often get in the way of movers and slow them down. Have your kids stay with a friend or relative for the day to make your day less stressful and the movers’ day more productive. Again, you’ll thank yourself later.
